CCTV shows moment hero teen jumps into car to save passengers from crash
A quick-thinking teenager was caught on CCTV jumping to stop a car crashing with two women trapped inside.
Euan Lonnen, 18, was working at a cafe when he spotted the driverless vehicle slowly rolling across a car park with two women sitting in the back.
The teenager sprinted after the car and first tried to turn the steering wheel, but when it failed to budge, he climbed inside and pulled on the handbrake – bringing the vehicle to a halt just moments before it hit another parked car.
Euan said: âI was talking to a customer at the door, and she pointed out the car with no one in the driverâs seat, that had started to roll. I started walking out to see if I could help, then I started running after it.

âMy first thought process was to angle the wheel towards the overflow car park and see if I could get the car to stop – but the guy had turned the car off and took the keys, so the steering wheel had locked.
âSomething inside of me said âjust get in the car,â and I put the handbrake on. The car had started skidding, so it didnât really stop until about a centimetre away from the other car.
âIt was very, very close, and everyone was a bit shaken up.â
Thankfully, neither of the passengers was hurt and both cars escaped without damage. Euan had been working a shift as supervisor at the Highland Farm Cafe in Dingwall, Scotland, when the drama unfolded.
His actions were praised by stunned customers and colleagues, while cafe owners Kenneth and Lesley later shared the CCTV footage on social media, where it attracted thousands of likes and comments.
Kenneth said: âWeâre very proud of how Euan reacted to the car rolling away. Euan is always looking for ways to look after our customers and this is another example of his looking out for others.
âThe two elderly passengers hadnât even got their seat belts on so his actions really did save the day!â
