New video has exposed the extensive lies told by a now convicted murderer as the 18-year-old victim died while restrained in handcuffs with the case sparking outrage across the United Kingdom.
Henry Nowak, 18, was stabbed to death after his killer, Vickrum Digwa, falsely claimed he was the victim of a racist attack. Police believed Digwa’s story, restraining the dying student instead of his attacker.
Newly released footage shows Digwa defending his actions when police attended the scene.
His father also defended his 23-year-old son, saying: “It’s my son that’s just been assaulted.”
Digwa told police he had been racially attacked, claiming: “Pushed my turban off my head, started grabbing my ankle and hair, so I’m going to see it, and he started grabbing my hair, started dragging me around.”
British police are now under fire for their handling of the incident, criticised for handcuffing Nowak while leaving Digwa unrestrained.
When officers finally assessed Nowak, one can be heard saying: “You’ve been stabbed? Whereabouts? I don’t think you have, mate.”
It took police eight minutes to discover the British student had been stabbed.
“I’m arresting you on suspicion of attempted murder. You’ve got your side of the story, mate. We don’t know what’s going on here,” an officer tells Nowak in the footage.
Right-wing commentators have seized on the case, with some declaring “British policing is in crisis.”
“The College of Policing, with their race action plans, that’s all racist against white people,” former Met Police detective Peter Bleksley claimed.
Britain’s incoming Prime Minister will face mounting pressure to ease racial tensions as the case continues to dominate national headlines.
The case has reignited Britain’s immigration debate, with political figure Nigel Farage weighing in on the controversy.
“We are treating different groups of 18-year-olds in entirely different ways, according to their ethnic origin. This is wrong,” the Reform UK leader said.
