Charlize Theron has made a career out of redefining what an action star looks like — and now she’s doing it again. Netflix has unveiled the first look at Apex, a brutal new action-survival thriller that drops the Oscar winner into the heart of the Australian wilderness… with a serial killer hunting her every move.

Freshly released images reveal Theron battered, relentless, and fully committed as she fights through mountains, rivers, and raw terrain while being stalked by a merciless predator. That predator is played by Kingsman star Taron Egerton, stepping sharply against type as a cold, ruthless killer with nothing to lose.

Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Everest, Adrift, Beast), Apex strips survival down to its most primal form. No safety nets. No shortcuts. Just endurance, instinct, and the will to stay alive. Eric Bana (Troy, Hulk, Untamed) rounds out the cast, adding further weight to the high-stakes confrontation.

The official synopsis sets the tone:

“A grieving woman testing her limits in the Australian wilderness is suddenly ensnared in a deadly game with a ruthless predator.”

Behind the scenes, the production pushed even Theron to her limits. Speaking about the shoot, the actress revealed she performed intense physical feats daily — climbing mountains barefoot, kayaking through dangerous waters, and enduring relentless physical strain without doubles or cheats.

Director Kormákur called the transformation “fascinating,” praising Theron’s refusal to cut corners as she trained like an extreme athlete to make the survival feel painfully real.

Meanwhile, Egerton embraced his turn to the dark side, joking that playing the villain meant he no longer had to worry about looking heroic — shaved head and all.

Set to premiere on Netflix on April 24, 2026, Apex promises a stripped-back, nerve-shredding chase where nature is just as deadly as the man pulling the trigger.
