💔 I Noticed the Smell of De-ath — Neighbor Breaks Silence After Four Children Are Found De-ad Alongside Their Mother and Grandmother

NEW details have emerged in the chilling deaths of a grandmother, her daughter, and four grandchildren who were found in an apartment after being missing for weeks.

One neighbor close to the family said she hadn’t heard from them in nearly two weeks and noticed “the smell of death,” prompting her to request a welfare check.

Police responded to an apartment in Mechanicville, New York, north of Albany, on Tuesday night and found Amy Steadman, 64, dead alongside her 44-year-old daughter and her four grandchildren.

Sarah Myers, Steadman’s daughter, lived in another apartment at the complex with her kids.

The four children were identified as Harper Harmon, 13, Hudson Harmon, 11, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon.

Mechanicville Police Chief Bill Rabbitt said at a press conference on Thursday morning that officials uncovered evidence, including a handwritten note, strongly suggesting Steadman “was involved in the deaths.”

The police chief said there was also evidence found that indicated “intentional poisoning” as officials uncovered numerous prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Rabbitt said one of the children suffered “fatal sharp force injuries.”

All six of the victims’ official causes of death remain pending as authorities wait on toxicology reports.

Rabbitt did not say exactly how long the victims’ bodies had been inside of the apartment, but said it was for an “extended period of time.”

Police declined to comment on the contents of the handwritten note or what kind of medications were discovered.

“We understand the public’s desire to identify someone to hold responsible. However, it is important that this investigation be completed thoroughly and professionally before final conclusions are reached,” Rabbitt said.

The preliminary investigation revealed there was no evidence of people outside of the apartment being involved in the deaths and that there was no known threat to the public.

Authorities were able to reach the children’s father, Brady Harmon, who lives over 2,000 miles away in Utah.

Harmon spoke with the Times Union, saying he hadn’t seen his kids since 2019, but was planning to see them next week following a move in a custody agreement case.

“I went from I’m seeing my kids to I’ll never see my kids again,” he said.

“Hope to hell. Things happen, but nothing like this.”

When police knocked on his door, they did not tell him how his children died, and he said he was unsure who could be responsible.

Harmon said he and Myers reached an agreement that would allow him to have the kids from July 1 to September 1.

Now, he plans to bury his children in Utah.

“I want them as far away as possible from their mother,” he told the Times Union between tears.

“She destroyed my life. She destroyed my family. All of us are now trying to figure out what happened.”

Harmon claimed Myers was investigated by Child Protective Services in New York.

A GoFundMe page was shared by Steadman and Myers years before their deaths, where the mother of four was looking to raise money for a domestic violence lawyer.

Court filings reviewed by The U.S. Sun showed Harmon filed for divorce from Myers in March 2020.

Myers retained sole physical custody of the kids while Harmon was granted parent time in the summer from July 1 through September 1 each year.

Myers was scheduled to appear in a Salt Lake City courtroom on June 29, 2026, to address potential contempt-of-court sanctions after Harmon filed an ex parte motion to enforce the order.

Stephanie Sweeney, a neighbor who lives two doors down from Steadman, said she called 911 after not hearing from the family in almost two weeks.

“I noticed the smell of death,” she told ABC affiliate WTEN.

“And then I noticed when I turned that the air conditioner and the windows was all full of flies and I knew immediately, so I just called, I had to.

“I thought I just did something wrong, and they [the family] weren’t talking to me.”
