Here’s the best of streaming this month.

If you’re looking for something new to watch this month on streaming, then you’ve come to the right place. Netflix, Prime Video and more are constantly releasing new projects, and we here at Digital Spy are on hand to pick some to keep your eye out for.

Among February’s highlights are a “gripping” recent thriller starring Emma Thompson, and an acclaimed Australian horror with Sally Hawkins.

Here are 5 you must see in the next few weeks:

State of Fear

Acting as a spin-off to Brazilian crime series Brotherhood, which focuses on the titular criminal faction, State of Fear sees members of the group “face a critical moment when their main leaders are transferred to maximum-security prisons, threatening the group’s stability”.

Netflix

During the events, Brotherhood founder Edson’s (Seu Jorge) daughter Elisa (Camilla Damião) is kidnapped by corrupt police officers, and the gang orders a ‘State of Fear’ – “a wave of violent attacks against police stations and security forces that plunges the city of São Paulo into chaos”.

At the same time, Elisa’s aunt Cristina (Naruna Costa) tries to rescue her, as they face “dilemmas of justice and violence” while the “choices of the past and present collide to shape their destinies”.

Streaming on Netflix from 11 February.

Firebreak

Viewers can expect “high‑tension” in this new Spanish psychological thriller, which focuses on Mara – a woman grieving the death of her husband. Alongside her family, she heads to a summer house to try and heal. However, things turn nightmarish when Mara’s daughter Lide runs off into the woods.

A wildfire then breaks out, and evacuation orders are issued. However, the family defies authorities and heads out to find Lide themselves amid the engulfing flames. They put hope in a local ranger, and “as the danger intensifies, Mara begins to suspect that the fire may not be the only threat – someone is lying”.

Money Heist‘s Belén Cuesta and Diana Gómez, A House on Fire‘s Enric Auquer, and Billionaires’ Bunker‘s Joaquín Furriel star in Firebreak, which comes from Sky Rojo director David Victori.

The Bluff

Priyanka Chopra Jonas leads this new revenge thriller, playing a former pirate called Ercell Bodden who tries to protect her family when she’s targeted by her former captain, Connor (Karl Urban).

“Armed with lethal swordsmanship, cunning traps, and a fierce will to protect those she loves, she wages a brutal war against Connor’s merciless crew,” the synopsis teases. “Ercell’s fight to save her family becomes a journey of redemption, as she reclaims her power and embraces the warrior she once was.”

Fans can also expect to see EastEnders‘ Zack Morris, The Mandalorian‘s Temuera Morrison, Anemone‘s Safia Oakley-Green and The Rings of Power‘s Ismael Cruz Cordova in the movie.

Dead of Winter

This thriller sees Emma Thompson play a grieving woman who gets lost and stops at a remote cabin, only to realise that the couple there have kidnapped a young woman. Stuck there without any mobile reception, she realises that she is the victim’s only hope as the couple are armed and intend to kill.

Dead of Winter has been described as “gripping” by the Radio Times, with the Daily Telegraph (Australia) praising Thompson’s “gritty” performance.

Directed by Game of Thrones‘ Brian Kirk, the movie also stars Marvel’s Judy Greer and The Abandons‘ Marc Menchaca.

Streaming on Paramount+ from 27 February.

Bring Her Back

Horror directors the Philippou brothers released this acclaimed film last year. The supernatural folk horror follows step-siblings who are fostered by a grieving mother. However, things take a dark turn when they “uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home”.

Bring Her Back currently sits at an impressive 89% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Mashable comparing it to Danny and Michael Philippou’s 2022 debut Talk To Me, suggesting it was just “as frightening” – and perhaps “even more so”.

Paddington‘s Sally Hawkins leads the movie alongside Invasion‘s Billy Barratt, and Sora Wong. Neighbours‘ Sally-Anne Upton also stars in the film.
