Coronation Street and Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod has finally given a verdict on the future of the landmark soap crossover Corriedale.
Fans have been long waiting for an answer as the the highly anticipated one-off event brings together the worlds of the two soap, hitting ITV screens on January 5 at 8pm.
In an historic event, two worlds collide as the residents of Emmerdale and Weatherfield are brought together by a catastrophic, life-changing encounter.
But there were not great news for soap enthusiasts after the drama executive producer ruled any long-term plans for Corriedale.
‘People love Corrie and people love Emmerdale and their distinct entities,’ he told The Sun.
‘They have their own tone of voice and their own sense of humour and their way of telling stories, and they wouldn’t blend long-term at all.

In addition this, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) desperately searches for Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) in the darkness alongside Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).
The special hour-long Corriedale installment will air at 8pm on January 5 – and unlike usual, it will not be dropped on ITVX earlier in the day.
Regular half hour episodes of each soap will be shown earlier, Emmerdale 7pm and Coronation Street 7.30pm – and these will drop on ITVX at 7am that morning.
New Coronation Street characters confirmed for the drama include Kit, Carla and Asha, as well as James Bailey (Jason Callender).
As for Emmerdale, their new additions include Cain, Charity, Robert, Jacob and Joe, as well as Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).
They all join the previously announced David Platt, Aaron Dingle, Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).
The special episode is a celebration of the soap genre and will launch ITV’s new ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
