A Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx film that fans are still raving about has been added to a new streaming platform in the UK and Ireland.

Released in 2009, thriller Law Abiding Citizen follows Clyde Shelton (Butler), a former CIA engineer who exacts his revenge when his wife and daughter are brutally assaulted and killed during a home invasion.

The film from director F Gary Gray takes things a step further than most revenge thrillers with a twisty development.

After targeting Clarence Darby (Christian Stolte), the criminal responsible for the double murder, Clyde lets police arrest him but continues his plan from prison.

Up against Clyde is Foxx’s Nick Rice, a Philadelphia prosecutor who originally couldn’t convict Darby due to mishandled evidence and made a plea deal with him.

Co-produced by Butler and also starring Viola Davis and Leslie Bibb, Law Abiding Citizen has just landed on Prime Video for subscribers based in the UK and Ireland.

While critics didn’t seem to rate the movie, which mostly earned negative reviews, cinemagoers have been appreciating the “solid performances”, calling Law Abiding Citizen the “top 1 revenge flick”.

“Finally a truly underrated movie. Love this one,” one fan wrote on Reddit, warning anyone watching it for the first time that the film is “heavy”.

“This movie’s ratings don’t even make sense to me,” someone else wrote. “It’s a very watchable movie with solid performances. Obviously not a masterpiece but I don’t get it.”

A third person enthused: “Top 1 revenge flick. Also one of Jamie Foxx’s best dramatic turns imo.”

“I just watched this again the other day. Omg what an insanely good movie,” another fan wrote.

“I love how the whole premise of the movie makes you question if our protagonist is actually the antagonist the whole time.”

Butler will next team up with Foxx in sports comedy All-Star Weekend, which marks Foxx’s directorial debut.

Written and produced by Foxx, the film follows Malik (Foxx) and Danny (Jeremy Piven), two best friends who are NBA fanatics. The duo find themselves in a dangerous situation on their way to see their idols, LeBron James and Stephen Curry, during an All-Star Game.

The star-studded film also features Eva Longoria, Robert Downey Jr, Ken Jeong and Benicio del Toro.
