Body language experts have revealed the major signs that proved Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were set to split.

The Oscar winner and musician’s separation was confirmed by Daily Mail on Monday, with the couple ending their almost two decades of marriage.

Nicole, 58, and Keith 57, were last seen together at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 football match between US Los Angeles FC and Tunis’ Esperance Sportive de Tunis back in June.

The pair, who are no strangers to packing on the PDA in public, looked distant during the outing as they put on a frosty display while watching the match from the stands.

Body language expert Louise Mahler told Daily Mail on Tuesday, the sighting hints at tension between the couple.

‘At one point, Nicole is fiddling with her left hand which is a sign of tension, but we do not know what it is about,’ she said.

Louise also pointed out that Keith didn’t appear to look at his wife Nicole during any point of the game.

‘He is looking away but Nicole is looking at him, it is an odd look,’ she said.

Body language and behaviour expert Scott Taylor also said this outing was different to the couple’s prior public appearances.

‘They would often mimic each others head tilt and even lean into each other equally,’ he said.

‘You can even see Nicole touching her thumb with her left hand (closest to Keith) which is potentially her body soothing her mind when that hand would be normally holding his in their prior photographed time together.’

Scott also said there was a ‘lack of genuine emotion’ from the couple during their final outing.

‘We also see their chins dipped a bit lower than usual,’ he continued.

‘This ‘power zone’ covering often comes when there is some element of discomfort and we have not really seen this prior.’

He added: ‘In prior outings they would have regular eye contact (validating glances and connection ) and this appeared also lacking.’

Scott also revealed how Keith could be seen ‘licking his lips quite frequently and we also see that with discomfort or stress as cortisol is released under stress and it slows saliva production so peoples mouths get drier.’

Nicole and Keith kept their distance from each other after arriving at the Geodis Park stadium in Nashville.

The couple are known for their intense public displays of affection at red carpet events and premieres, a world away from their recent sighting.

In May, Nicole and Keith cuddled as they posed for photos together at the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

The outing was the last time the couple were seen together before news of their split became public.

The source said: ‘Keith never sees Nicole, either she is filming or he is on tour. There was a lot of love between the two and they might not divorce, but there is a world that they both live where neither of them are in it.

‘Keith and Nicole have been together for decades and there is a world which they can reconcile, but the way their pairing is now, it is not a couple.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban for further comment and has yet to hear back.

The former couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

Nicole was previously married to Tom Cruise, 63, from 1990 to 2001, and the exes adopted two children during their union.

Another source close to the Australian actress says that, since the split, she has been taking care of the children and holding the family together through this difficult time while Urban has been away.

The country star has been on his High and Alive World Tour since May. He is due to perform in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Thursday.

Kidman and the children, meanwhile, are staying in Nashville, where the couple own a $4million compound. TMZ reported Monday that Urban has ‘acquired his own residence in Nashville and has moved out of their family home.’

Earlier this month, it emerged that Kidman was spending a small fortune each month to live in a stately London home away from Keith.

The actress had been staying in England to film the Practical Magic sequel, and was residing at a luxurious Hampstead mansion once owned by pop star Boy George.

The stately manor reportedly costs the Moulin Rouge actress $87,288 per month in rent, with Urban notably absent from the property.

While the London move was for work, it certainly raised eyebrows back in Kidman’s native Australia.

‘[Kidman and Urban] do make an effort to speak every day when they’re apart, but it is shocking how much time they’ve spent apart since Nicole’s mother died last September,’ an insider told local magazine Woman’s Day earlier this month. ‘It’s like they both went their separate ways.’

Back in July, Urban dropped a hint that all was not well between the pair when he dramatically hung up during a phone interview with a radio station after a crude question about Kidman’s raunchy recent scenes, such as in her movies Babygirl and A Family Affair.

For her part, and while promoting her Netflix series The Perfect Couple in September last year, Kidman admitted there was no such thing as a ‘perfect’ marriage.

‘There’s no perfect anything,’ she said, ‘anything that’s presented as perfect… forget it.’
