Absentia, the “outstanding” mystery drama centred on an FBI agent tracking a killer, is trending on Netflix right now. Directed by Oded Ruskin, the series stars Stana Katic, Patrick Heusinger, Cara Theobold and Matthew Le Nevez. First released on Prime Video in 2017, Absentia follows an FBI special agent named Emily Byrne (Katic). When Emily disappears while hunting a notorious Boston serial killer, she is declared dead in absentia.
When Emily’s husband, FBI agent Nick Durand (Heusinger), uncovers a clue to his missing wife’s whereabouts, he finds her alive after six years. Emily then learns the troubling news about Nick’s new spouse.
The logline reads: “Years after her presumed death, an FBI agent escapes a serial killer’s clutches to find her family has moved on — and a new crime shadows her return.”
Absentia currently occupies the number three spot in the streaming service’s top 10 series in the UK.
All three seasons of the show have been added to the streamer, meaning fans can binge-watch 30 episodes of the thriller series now.

Over on IMDb, the show has a user rating of 7.2 out of 10 from over 18,000 reviews, with one user calling Absentia “outstanding”. Their review continued: “It held my interest, kept me on the edge of my seat, and anxious for more. Cant say that about many shows these days. Kudos Ms Katic.”
“It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in years. I’ll see it again in a few years time as it was so good,” penned another.

Another review read: “Acting in my opinion was superb. BEST show/movie that I’ve seen in forever!!! If you want your typical dribble that’s the majority of TV nowadays, skip this. If you want something different, time to WATCH! Hope there’s a season two!”
One less favourable user review stated: “This could have been a good series if they collapsed into 5-6 episodes. It is so drawn out that I found myself fast forwarding through superlative dialogue and scenes. Acting is passable at best with very mediocre performances.”
Another wrote: “The most intriguing moments in Absentia arise not from the whodunnit element but rather the sheer weirdness. Season 1 was phenomenal.”
Absentia is streaming on Netflix.
