A ‘brutal and underappreciated’ modern war movie is leaving Netflix in a matter of days.
Subscribers to the streamer’s service have less than a week to watch the film and are urged to check it out before its too late. The title in question is 2007 release The Kingdom.
It boasts an impressive cast list including Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Entourage’s Jeremy Piven, Monster The Jeffrey Dahmer Story actor Richard Jenkins, and Ozark star Jason Bateman. The film also has a score by Danny Elfman who is known for composing The Simpsons theme tune as well as movies including Batman and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
According to its synopsis, The Kingdom follows federal agent Ron Fleury as he is charged with the most important assignment of his career. He has one week to assemble a team, infiltrate and destroy a terrorist cell based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Culture shock and opposition from local law enforcement combine to hinder his progress and that of his elite team, but a sympathetic Saudi police captain becomes an unexpected comrade-in-arms. It was directed by Peter Berg who went on to helm Lone Survivor and American Primeval.

Unfortunately, time is now running out for viewers to check out the film for themselves on Netflix. The streamer has indicated that the final day to be able to watch the film will be February 9. After that it is expected to be removed from its library.
While it may not have been a massive critical success upon its initial release, it is still highly recommended by movie fans who have already seen it. It’s fan score is remarkably higher at 76% on the website Rotten Tomatoes.
Such as one person who believes: “The Kingdom is an under appreciated modern war movie compared to its competition. When people think of post Vietnam war movies, they think of The Hurt Locker, American Sniper, Black Hawk Down. But in my honest opinion, The Kingdom is just as good as any of them and is infinitely more re-watchable.”
They continued: “What Peter Berg did with The Kingdom was a masterclass in filmmaking in the genre. It’s often still grim and brutal, but it’s moments of levity, comic relief, and ever growing relationships make it a medium hearted experience, while still getting the narrative across that war is a brutal and ultimately a never ending cycle of violence.”

Fans think the movie is seriously underrated(Image: Universal)
Another fan agreed: “One of the most underrated movies. Great cast, high emotions and intense action.” While someone else added: “Oh wow. This was by far one of the best movies I’ve seen in a LONG time.
“A bit gory in parts and probably not for the faint of heart, but amazing! Mostly it was packed full of action! Jaime Foxx did an AMAZING job as always. The ending is a kicker. You sort of expect it but it really is a tear jerker.”
One viewer went so far as to claim: “I think this is probably one of the best action films ever made for me. The message was very solid and the acting was great. I would highly suggest you watch this film.”
The Kingdom is streaming on Netflix until February 10.
