A man convicted of invading Eminem’s home in Clinton Township will spend years in prison after he was sentenced in Macomb County.

Matthew David Hughes, 32, was sentenced to 15 years to 30 years on first-degree home invasion and three years to seven years and six months on aggravated stalking. He received no credit for days served in the county jail, according to online circuit court records.

The sentencings are to run consecutive to each other and both consecutive to time for a parole violation, according to the records.

Hughes is to have no contact with Eminem, who is listed in the records as Marshall Mathers III, his legal name, or be within 500 feet of his home, school or work. Circuit Judge Diane Druzinski sentenced Hughes.

Messages were left for Hughes’ attorney, who could not be immediately reached after the sentencing June 17.

Hughes was convicted by a jury May 7 after a trial that lasted about a day and a half. Eminem testified at the start of the trial’s second day. The jury returned a guilty verdict in an hour, according to court records.

This is the second time Hughes was charged with invading Eminem’s township home.

He was arrested in August, three days after township police say he was seen on the rapper’s property. Hughes was detained at a Walmart. Court records listed his address as a Gratiot Avenue motel in the township. He has been in the county jail since he was booked into the lockup Aug. 30, according to online jail records.

Unlike a similar incident in 2020 — when Hughes broke into the house and awakened Eminem — he did not confront the rapper during the August invasion.

Hughes’ conviction in May happened 25 years to the month after the release of “The Marshall Mathers LP,” which featured the enduring hit “Stan” — a song about an obsessive fan.

In the 2020 case, Hughes was arrested on Eminem’s property that April during the early weeks of the COVID-19 quarantine. The rapper told police he awakened to find a stranger standing behind him. When Eminem asked why he was in the home, Hughes said he was there to kill him, a detective testified during a preliminary exam in 41B District Court in the township.

Hughes reached a plea deal in that case and was sentenced in September 2021 to five years’ probation. After being arrested by Taylor police that November for simple assault, he was found to have violated probation and was sentenced to prison.

Hughes was released May 15, 2024, and was on parole, with a supervision discharge date of June 19, 2026, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections website.

Hughes was also arrested in June 2019 after he was found sleeping in the guest house of a Rochester Hills property previously owned by Eminem.
