In South Park Season 27, series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone modeled their parody of Vice President JD Vance after the character Tattoo from the 1970s drama series Fantasy Island, unintentionally inspiring a bizarre, tattoo-related fantasy that one fan just turned into reality.

Ever since South Park first premiered in 1997, superfans have been decorating their bongs, dorm rooms and bodies with depictions of Cartman, Kenny, Stan and Kyle. Hell, there might not be a single tattoo parlor in the country that hasn’t filled a request for some South Park-related ink, which won’t earn any complaints from the artists — as far as fictional characters go, the South Park cast is pretty easy to sketch.

But for all the show-inspired tattoos that the South Park fandom has seen over the years, no piece of body art could have prepared them for what Reddit user Turbulent-Tutor8939 unveiled in a recent mega-viral post titled simply, “jd vance tattoo.”

This permanent commemoration of a South Park political parody that’s still only partially complete comes from San Luis Obispo-based tattoo artist tamotats, who touted the tat on their own Instagram page with the caption, “release da list boss.” However, while tamotats is justifiably proud of their work — after all, that fat baby face is startlingly true-to-life — the greater South Park online community believes that Turbulent-Tutor8939 should start to experiment with feeling shame.

“Ya, you definitely won’t regret this in the future,” one of the top commenters wrote in Turbulent-Tutor8939’s thread.

“This is potentially the most embarrassing tattoo I’ve seen in my whole life,” another user added.

One more detractor commented, “The South Park version of Vance is a hilarious character but still, WHY the fuck would you want his face forever emblazoned on your body? I see laser removal within just a few years for you, lol.”

As for tamotats’ part in making Turbulent-Tutor8939’s dreams come to life, a South Park fan wondered, “How did you convince someone to do this?”

A begrudging artistry-appreciator said of the piece, “Clean lines, but wtf.”

But while most South Park fans who gazed upon the glory of Fat Baby JD Vance put to flesh were put off by the tattoo, Turbulent-Tutor8939 did have his defenders in the thread urging everybody else to just relax, guy. “What an incredible use of free will,” one such defender marveled.

“this is egregious and wonderful and a terrible decision have a nice day,” another wrote.

Of course, Turbulent-Tutor8939’s new ink could have serious ramifications down the road. “You can’t leave the country and be guaranteed to get back in now,” one Redditor warned.

Many fans argued that, in a few years’ time, South Park’s parody of Vance will have gotten old, and, as the wheel of American politics continues to spin, Turbulent-Tutor8939’s tattoo will become even more embarrassing as the real Vance fades into obscurity. Then again, if Vance succeeds in becoming Trump’s successor, as he so schemed in the most recent episode of South Park, he could very well last even longer than tamotats’ masterpiece. Unlike this tattoo, our democracy may be temporary.
