Emergency crews, including paramedics, were scrambled to an address in St John’s Chase shortly after 11am on January 3.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed tiny Atijus Elertaite was discovered at the property in a life-threatening condition.

The three-month-old was then rushed to hospital but, despite the best efforts of medical teams, tragically died five days later.

A post-mortem recorded his preliminary cause of death as a head injury, pending further medical inquiries.

The force also said that a 25-year-old woman and 22-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) before Atijus died.

They were then re-arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and both remain in custody.

Detective Inspector Verity McCann urged anyone with information to come forward as enquires into the tot’s tragic death continue.

She said: “We know the local community will be shocked and deeply saddened.
