THE dad of a drunk driver who killed a bride on her wedding night calmly puffed on a cigar as he offered his sobbing daughter astonishing words of sympathy from jail.
Jamie Lee Komoroski complained that she still could not understand why the horror had happened “to me,” prompting her father Charles to tell her that “bad things happen to good people.”

The extraordinary exchange came weeks after Komoroski plowed into newlyweds Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson in Folly Beach, South Carolina, on April 28, 2023.

Komoroski asked her dad why the tragedy had happened to her.
Charles replied that it was simply something that had happened and told her the family would deal with it as best they could.

It was not the only time her father sought to reassure her in jail.
In another early call obtained by ABC affiliate WCIV, Charles described the deadly wreck as “a tragic accident” and told his daughter she had not acted deliberately.
But Komoroski’s fears during the newly resurfaced conversation repeatedly centered on what her own future would look like.
She worried about the intense media coverage surrounding the case and questioned why reporters were so interested in her.
Charles suggested it was because the story sold newspapers, according to the New York Post.
Komoroski then fretted that people would be “so mean to me” whenever she eventually got out of custody.
As she cried that she did not want to be locked away for “so, so long,” her father urged her to toughen up and said the family was doing everything it could.
The devastating crash happened just hours after 34-year-old Samantha had married Aric.

Komoroski was driving a rented Toyota at 65mph in a 25mph zone when she slammed into the golf cart carrying the newlyweds and two relatives after their wedding reception.
Samantha was thrown from the cart and died at the scene while still wearing her wedding dress.
Aric suffered serious injuries, while the two other people riding with the couple were also hurt.
Tests later found Komoroski had a blood-alcohol level of 0.261 percent — more than three times South Carolina’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Newly released police footage has also exposed Komoroski’s behavior immediately after the deadly wreck.
She repeatedly demanded to call her father, questioned why she had been arrested and at one point told officers, “I just want to go home.”
Komoroski initially denied drinking before admitting she had consumed a beer and a tequila-based drink, and she refused to provide a breath sample.

She ultimately pleaded guilty in December 2024 to charges including felony DUI resulting in death, DUI causing great bodily injury and reckless homicide.
Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years behind bars for the wedding-night tragedy.
