Three men have been arrested after a wild police chase through multiple suburbs in Sydney’s west with officers alleging the offender’s stolen vehicle is linked to a string of shootings and firebombings across the city.

NSW Police allege they first attempted to stop a stolen white Audi along the Great Western Hwy in Wentworthville about 2.25pm on Saturday.

The Audi allegedly failed to stop, and police pursued it to the M4 motorway where one of the occupants was seen throwing fuel jerry cans onto the road at Silverwater.

“We believe those items included fuel containers and bleach containers,” Detective Inspector Brad Abdy, from Strike Force Raptor the city’s gangland crime squad, told reporters.

The vehicle was rammed by police along Hill Rd in Lidcombe, where the three men ran from the car.

“Three guys in black outfits, masks, everything, jump out and just jump off the bridge and start legging it across the road,” witness Jamie Mornin told 7NEWS

Police managed to track the men using PolAir and the Dog Squad, and all three were arrested after being chased down on foot.

“Two of them make off right, one makes off left. There are about 10 or 12 police on foot running after this guy,” Mornin said.

A semi-automatic rifle and a pistol were also allegedly found inside the stolen Audi.

“The original reporting was that they were also wearing balaclavas,” Abdy said.

“What they were doing at Wentworth Park Leagues Club this afternoon is obviously very concerning.”

The men, aged 24, 25 and 28, were taken to Auburn Police Station, where inquiries are ongoing, police said.

The firearms and the vehicle were seized for forensic examination.

Police confirmed on Saturday evening the allegedly stolen Audi is linked to shootings and firebombings across southwest Sydney over the past few weeks.

That includes three in Panania, one where a gun was fired at a home, another where a firebombing targeted the wrong property. There were also two more in St John’s Park and Colleton.
