An early-morning shooting which left one man dead at an apartment complex in Sydney’s west may be linked to organised crime, police say.
Just after 4am emergency services were called to a unit block in Lidcombe following reports of gunshots.
Police arrived to find a 38-year-old man who had been shot multiple times in what investigators believe was a “targeted” attack.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene, but died shortly after he was taken to Westmead Hospital.
A second man at the scene was assaulted and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but these are not suspected to be gunshot wounds.
Both men were known to each other, and the injured man is assisting police with inquiries.
Auburn Area Commander Superintendent Robert Toynton said early investigations indicate the shooting is linked to organised crime.
“I can assure the community, this is a targeted attack. This is not a random attack,” Toynton said.
“From what we’ve discovered so far, there are strong links to organised crime.”
Toynton said police are now investigating multiple persons of interest, including two men who are described as being “heavy set” and wearing black clothing.
He urged anyone who heard something suspicious between 11pm and 4am to come forward to police.
“Someone must have seen something, someone must have heard something,” he added.
No arrests have been made and a crime scene has been established at the apartment.
