Three people, including a 12-year-old girl, are dead and a teenager has been flown to hospital after a horror crash in southern Queensland.

Police believe two large utes, a Dodge Ram and Ford Ranger, collided on the Bunya Highway at Taabinga, about 200 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, just after 10pm yesterday.

A 44-year-old woman was travelling in the Ford with two young girls, aged 12 and 13, at the time of the crash.

The driver and the 12-year-old died at the scene, as did the male driver of the Dodge.

The Dodge also caught fire after the crash.

The 13-year-old girl survived and was taken to Kingaroy Hospital then flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The Bunya Highway has reopened after being closed last night near the intersection of Stuart Valley Drive and Toomeys Road.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

In a statement on social media, the Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, expressed her “deepest sympathies” for the families of those who had died.

“The loss of three lives, including a young child, is heartbreaking,” she said.

“My thoughts are especially with the family of the young girl who remains in hospital, and I am praying for her fast recovery.”

Ms Frecklington also thanked the first responders for their courage in the face of “such a confronting scene.”
