Homicide Squad detectives have charged three men over a fatal shooting in Fitzroy earlier this month.

Ater Good, 16, died near the intersection of Brunswick and King William streets just after midnight on January 3.

Police found the wounded teenager after an officer inside the Fitzroy Police Station heard two gunshots.

They performed first aid but Ater could not be saved.

Today, police arrested 21-year-old Omar Omar of Heidelberg at Melbourne Airport.

He has been interviewed by detectives and charged with one count of murder.

He has appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning, where he was remanded in custody until June.

Two other men — 19-year-old Abdijalil Abdirahman Warsame from Heidelberg West and a 20-year-old Shakiib Farah Abdulkadir from Bundoora — were charged with murder just over a week ago.

They have also been remanded in custody to appear in court in June.

Police said they were continuing to investigate whether there were any links between the fatal shooting and the New Year’s Eve stabbing of two men in the popular Lygon Street restaurant strip in Carlton.

“Victoria Police Crime Command detectives, together with regional police and other specialist units including Taskforce VIPER, have established Operation Firelong to investigate both incidents and prevent ongoing violence,” a police spokesperson said.

“The investigations remain ongoing.”
