Participants are given a chance to their happily ever after on Married At First Sight and that’s certainly been the case for some.
For others, things don’t work out during the experiment and a couple may decide to ‘leave’. Some leave in more dramatic circumstances as we see in the case here.
From unexpected exits, to shock splits, here’s a look at which couples have left the experiment so far in 2026:

Final Commitment Ceremony: Chris and Sam
After a tough couple of weeks, Chris and Sam officially broke up at Homestays.
Despite Sam packing his bags and leaving Chris’ farm, the grooms returned to see out the rest of the week at the Dinner Party and Commitment Ceremony.
Everyone was very sad to see Chris and Sam’s relationship fail. (Nine)
On the couch, Sam said it felt like Chris never forgave him for calling him out during Feedback Week.
Meanwhile, Chris felt things had felt “off” since they slept together after the Retreat.
That information surprised Sam, and was just another thing to add to his disappointment over how this has ended.

They each revealed their “leave” decisions, and despite the sad end hugged it out before exiting for good.
Commitment Ceremony 6: Juliette and Joel
It had looked like Juliette and Joel made a miraculous turnaround, but as she walked out of the fifth Commitment Ceremony, it was clear that wasn’t the case.
The couple had made great progress during Retreat Week, after the experts confronted Juliette over the way she was treating her husband.
The experts were concerned Juliette hadn’t changed her behaviour, just her target. (Nine)
But Juliette’s involvement in the drama caused everything to unravel just one couch session later.
Juliette said she was concerned that Joel had not stuck up for her amid ongoing drama with Bec, and just as expert Alessandra Rampolla was starting to tell her Bec’s behaviour was no excuse for Juliette’s bad language, the bride got up.
She walked out of the Commitment Ceremony, and the entire experiment, insulting Joel on her way out.
“You’re a dog and a pig,” she told him.
When Joel returned to the couch alone, the experts praised his level head and patience.
Commitment Ceremony 4: Stephanie and Tyson
Stephanie and Tyson were a perfect match on paper but things came to an explosive end after he stormed out of the fourth MAFS Commitment Ceremony – and never returned.
Stephanie aired that she was concerned by Tyson’s choice of language, lack of filter and inability to compromise as she brought up his views on same-sex relationships and “submissive” wives.
Stephanie spoke up for the last time. (Nine)
She felt she was “supressing” what she would usually say to avoid starting an argument.
Tyson felt his words were being twisted and said he wasn’t a bad person, the two just couldn’t see eye-to-eye.
Steph claimed that whenever he was challenge, he would be “done with it” which is exactly what happened.
The groom had enough, was done with the experiment and walked out.
“I do not see a future here with this person at all. And quite frankly, after tonight, I’m going back to the Gold Coast,” he declared.
He walked out, leaving Steph to cry and throw her wedding ring on the ground.
Commitment Ceremony 3: Mel and Luke
Mel arrived looking for her rom-com but described her wedding to Luke as more like an Adam Sandler comedy.
Things were very frosty because the pair in the early weeks, but after some home truths from the experts Mel and Luke built a solid friendship.
Mel was sad she just couldn’t find a spark. (Nine)
Sadly, that was all it would become as Mel admitted her feelings for Luke just hadn’t grown.
However, Luke was left sceptical that she’d really tried.
“I’ve never put so much effort into a person as I have with Mel on this experiment,” he told the experts.
Tired of trying to make something out of nothing, both Mel and Luke chose to leave.
Commitment Ceremony 3: Julia and Grayson
Julia and Grayson had a magical spark from the moment they met at their wedding – but it was almost all downhill from there.
They failed to connect on a deeper level and earlier in the week, Julia wrote Grayson a break-up letter.
Julia explained why she broke up with Grayson. (Nine)
During the third Commitment Ceremony, Grayson’s frustration at what he saw as Julia wasting his time was evident.
He alleged that Julia would’ve preferred to have been matched with a woman, which she denied.
She felt like they simply “don’t speak the same language”.
Despite the differences in opinion, Julia and Grayson shared their mutual decisions to leave before sharing some kind final words.
Commitment Ceremony 2: Brook and Chris
Chris came into the experiment sceptical until he found a match in Brook.
The two were off to a slow but steady start until a video from Chris’ past left Brook “appalled”.
Brook couldn’t see a future with Chris. (Nine)
“There’s things and actions that Chris has done that I can’t move past,” said Brook during the second Commitment Ceremony.
She was referring to the groom’s audition tape that revealed a side to Chris his wife didn’t want to know.
Brook put her and Chris’ relationship strongly in the friend zone. Talking around his growing feelings for Brook, Chris said he knew things wouldn’t work between them in the experiment.
“It’s the fact that it won’t on the outside either, Chris,” Brook replied.
As Brook was being held accountable by the experts for her actions at the second Dinner Party, the bride declared she needed a toilet break. She was gone.
Chris was done and walked out too.
Commitment Ceremony 2: Rebecca and Steve
Despite a positive start, Rebecca and Steve faced their biggest challenges during Intimacy Week.
Steve felt the pair were going at different “paces” in the relationship, while Rebecca felt Steve wasn’t “showing up for her” on a day-to-day.
Steve and Rebecca both decided to ‘leave’. (Nine)
During the second Commitment Ceremony, Rebecca felt that Steve was too worried about everyone else and didn’t give the experiment his all.
Steve disagreed, saying they had a “personality clash” which John called a “cop out” excuse.
The expert wondered if Steve had done anything to make Rebecca feel desired. They both choose to leave.
