The father of 16 “feral” children found living in squalor in rural Ohio was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday on unrelated charges; however, the date was changed for unknown reasons.
Gary Siders Jr. is facing four charges of indecent exposure, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. The alleged behavior is believed to have been the reason why authorities arrived at the family’s home in Hamden.
His new pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. While executing a warrant on the charges against Siders Jr., police found the children in a feces-covered bedroom at the back of the home.
Siders Jr. was arrested along with his wife, Elizabeth, who is also the children’s mother.
Siders Jr.’s parents, Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, were also arrested. Each of the adults is facing 16 counts of child endangerment.

A month before his arrest, Siders Jr. was charged with four counts of public indecency incidents over nine days. The alleged incidents happened on May 23, 27, 29, and 31, according to court records obtained by People.
While details of the allegations are not available, court records state that all four incidents stem from an alleged violation of an Ohio law that prohibits “recklessly exposing the person’s private parts.” In Ohio, public indecency is a fourth-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $250 fine on each count.
Investigators say that all four exposure incidents happened around the same time when the kids were later discovered, according to court records.

Two kids had to be life-flighted to the hospital, while seven others were taken to nearby hospitals. None of the children was enrolled in school.
Former FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffer told NewsNation that the exposure charges should have been a warning sign. “It definitely stands out as a red flag, because it’s very unusual for an individual to be outside of their home exposing themselves,” she said.
Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Sider were charged with truancy in October 2021 after six of their children didn’t show up for a single day of school, which is located about five minutes from where they live.
