A 17-year-old boy was charged with murder following the death of a 13-year-old boy, authorities said.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on Tuesday identified the suspect as Landen Austin Moore.

SLED said Moore was booked into the McCormick County Detention Center, while a 16-year-old who SLED said was also involved in the crime was transferred to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. SLED did not reveal any charges against the younger teen.
Arrest affidavits SLED shared online show the 13-year-old was identified as Daryl Martinez Lowry.
The documents note that Lowry was involved in “a physical altercation” with Moore and the 16 year old at a boat dock on Clarks Hill Lake in Modoc on Monday. Investigators said Lowry “suffered lacerations from a knife” before Moore and the other teen held his head underwater until he died.
People reported that Lowry’s body was recovered from the lake later that day, SLED said.
According to reports, all three boys were foster children living with McCormick County Council Chairman Bernie Hamby. The Augusta Press reported that Lowry was recently placed in the home temporarily while awaiting another foster placement.
Lowry’s aunt set up a GoFundMe account to help the child’s family.
“He was an amazing child full of life, love, and charisma,” the aunt wrote. “He loved his parents, family, and friends, and he always wore a smile. Unfortunately because of his untimely and unexpected passing we, his family are in need of financial support. Whatever you can donate will be greatly appreciated, and if you are financially unable we accept your love and prayers. Thank you all for everything.”
SLED said its investigation remains active and ongoing and that additional information may be released as the case progresses. The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
