Virgin River Season 7 gave fans a few twists and turns they never saw coming. One of those twists was that notorious villain Calvin (David Cubitt) was killed.

The new season picked up right where Season 6 left off with Jack (Martin Henderson) arriving at Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) house to check on her after she missed Jack and Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) wedding.

Jack didn’t find Charmaine but instead found Calvin dead. Based on the evidence, Mike (Marco Grazzini) believed Charmaine was the killer. After all, they had been fighting over their twin sons.

However, considering Calvin’s shady business dealings and the numerous people who wanted him dead, Jack was convinced Charmaine wasn’t the killer. Charmaine’s disappearance didn’t help her case, especially as it appeared she went on the run with her baby boys.

Despite Mike’s orders, Brie (Zibby Allen) got involved in the case to prove Charmaine’s innocence. In Virgin River Season 7 Episode 8, all of Brie’s hard work paid off when she realized something was off with Charmaine’s boss, Grant (Alessandro Julian).

After following him home, Brie discovered Charmaine and the boys locked in a room in his house. Brie was able to diffuse the situation while getting the truth out of Grant and Charmaine.

It turned out Calvin thought Charmine was hooking up with Grant, but that wasn’t the case. What was going on was that Grant was obsessed with her.

In a flashback to the night of Calvin’s death, it was revealed that Calvin and Charmaine were having a heated fight that led him to attack her at gunpoint. Enter Grant, who was able to get the gun from Calvin and shot him dead.

Having Grant kill him, not one of his bad business guys, was a signature Virgin River move. The hit Netflix show never goes the easy or predictable route, and it always pays off just like with Calvin’s killer.

Seasons 1-7 of Virgin River are streaming on Netflix.
