A 27-year-old woman was found d3:ad inside a home in Logan… but what police revealed about the final 10 days before the tragedy has left everyone heartbroken
A homicide investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead at a Brisbane home and police believe she could had died of asphyxiation.
Emergency services were called to a home on Rowanda St in Slacks Creek, Logan, about 12.30am on Wednesday where a woman was found unresponsive after reports of an assault.
Paramedics and officers performed CPR on the woman and treated her for life threatening injuries, however, she was unable to be revived and was declared dead at the scene about 1am.
She has since been identified as a 27-year-old Woody Point woman.
The home is now a crime scene as police launch investigations into the death.
This led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Slacks Creek man at the scene. He has since been charged with domestic violence-related murder.
Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said the man charged is believed to have been the same person who called police, and is the ex partner of the woman.
Galpin said the woman was found in a rear bedroom of the home with preliminary investigations revealing the woman had died of asphyxiation. However, a post mortem examination is needed to confirm the woman’s cause of death.
He also revealed the woman had contacted police within the last 10 days in relation to domestic and family violence related issues.
“As a result of that contact police did initiate proceedings under the domestic and family violence act,” Galpin said.
A temporary protection order was issued at court in recent days.
When asked by a 7NEWS journalist if police had done everything possible to keep this woman safe, Galpin replied that he was “satisfied” with police actions prior to the woman’s death.
“Having reviewed the investigation thus far, I am satisfied that police had taken the appropriate actions, and that support had been offered to this woman as well, and that other support services had been engaged,” he said.
The woman’s death comes after a string of domestic violence related deaths plaguing Queensland in recent months.
“Any life that is lost because of domestic and family violence has an obvious and devastating impact on family and friends and also on the wider community,” Galpin said.
“What has happened this morning is an absolutely tragic event and it’s something that the QPS, our partner agencies and support services come to work everyday to try and prevent this exact thing.
“So when something like this does happen we all feel it, as I’m sure the wider community does as well.”
Anyone who may have information that may assist in the investigation are urged to come forward.
