Four Killed in Tragic Plane Crash at London Southend Airport, Police Confirm

Authorities have confirmed that four people were killed when a light aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from London Southend Airport on Sunday afternoon.

The aircraft — identified as a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air — had landed earlier in the day and was departing for De Kooy Airport in the Netherlands when it encountered difficulties and crashed within the airport perimeter.

Emergency crews were dispatched immediately, but all four individuals on board died at the scene, Essex Police confirmed during a press briefing.

“Sadly, we can now confirm that all four people on board died,” said an Essex Police spokesperson. “At this stage, we believe all four were foreign nationals. We are working to formally confirm their identities.”

The AAIB has deployed a team of eight inspectors specializing in aircraft engineering, human factors, flight operations, and data recovery. Once initial evidence is secured, the wreckage will be transported to Farnborough, Hampshire, for further analysis.

At this time, officials have not speculated on the cause of the crash. The focus remains on gathering physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing flight data.

June Win Stanley, CEO of London Southend Airport, expressed her condolences and confirmed that the airport will remain closed until further notice.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of those lost,” she said. “We’re working closely with authorities and will support the investigation in any way we can.”
