Nadiya Bychkova issues health update as she breaks silence on ‘frightening’ hospital dash in BBC Strictly training

It was announced on Tuesday that the professional dancer had been rushed to hospital

Strictly Come Dancing star Nadiya Bychkova has shared an update after being rushed to the hospital.

The Ukrainian dancer was injured during rehearsals for the BBC series, which is set to return to screens next month.

The 35-year-old sustained injuries in the north London space where professional dancers have been preparing group routines for the new series.

Bychkova experienced severe pain, particularly affecting her back, prompting immediate medical intervention.

After emergency services were called, Bychkova was subsequently stretchered from the building and transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital for urgent medical assessment.

On Wednesday, the choreographer took to social media to issue a highly anticipated update.

Sharing a smiling selfie taken from a hospital bed, she began the lengthy statement: “Well… where do I start?

“Thank you so much for all the messages, love and support. I just wanted you to know that I am ok.

“I had a fall in training yesterday and landed on my back. I was really worried for a while and I was so thankful to the Strictly family and medical team who really looked after me.

“The staff at the hospital were so kind and caring. I’m smiling in the picture but it was really scary and there were a few tears as I had to lie still for hours but I was given the all-clear after an x-ray and allowed to go home.

“I’ve got some physio today but I will be back on that dance floor soon, and I’ll be ready to shine and sparkle in the new series of the biggest show on TV.”

After sharing the news, which will have come as a relief to both herself, the BBC, and fans of the show, she concluded the post: “I can’t wait for you to see it. Keep dancing!”

BBC Strictly: Neil Jones and Toyah Willcox

BBC Strictly: Neil Jones and Toyah Willcox faced Tom Dean and Nadiya Bychkova in the dance-off last year

The accident occurred as professional dancers were deep into preparations for the forthcoming series.

Bychkova, who joined the programme in 2017 and was partnered with Olympic swimmer Tom Dean in the most recent series, had been rehearsing alongside fellow professionals when the incident happened.

Medical and welfare teams continue to monitor her recovery, with the production maintaining regular contact to ensure she receives appropriate support throughout her recuperation.

The timing of Bychkova’s accident coincides with the announcement of contestants for the 2025 series.
