After Months of Whispered Rumours, Kate Garraway Finally Confirms She’s Dating Again Following Husband Derek’s Death
Kate Garraway, 58, has spoken with rare honesty about one of the most delicate questions surrounding her life since the loss of her husband, Derek Draper.
The Good Morning Britain presenter — who lost Derek in January last year after his long and devastating four-year fight with Covid complications — has revealed that she has indeed begun cautiously dating again.
For years, Kate was devoted to Derek’s care while balancing her demanding TV career and raising their two children, Darcey and Billy. When he passed away, the presenter became a widow and single mother overnight, navigating both grief and relentless media scrutiny.

“I’ve laughed at so many of the rumours,” she admitted. “But hiding the truth hasn’t helped either. The reality is, yes — I’ve started dating again.”

“I never imagined I’d feel ready, but I’ve realised Derek would want me to find happiness again,” she shared. “I’m still grieving, of course, but I want to show my children that love and life don’t have to end with loss.”
Kate has not revealed the identity of her new partner, insisting the relationship is “early and private.” Yet she felt it was important to speak openly to put an end to endless rumours and allow herself space to move forward.
“Derek and I built such a wonderful home life for 21 years. I’ll always carry that with me. But perhaps it’s time to let myself embrace something new — even if it feels strange,” she added.
