Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man in Padbury in Perth’s northern suburbs.

Officers responded to a report of an altercation inside a residence on Buchanan Way about 6:15pm on Wednesday, according to a statement from WA Police.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 69-year-old man with critical injuries,” police said.

“Emergency first aid was provided until St John WA paramedics arrived and conveyed the man to Royal Perth Hospital, where he later died as a result of the injuries sustained.”

A 39-year-old man, who police believe was known to the deceased man, was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Jamie Tonus, who lives nearby, said police knocked on his door on Wednesday night and told his wife “something serious” had occurred.

“Didn’t think something like that would happen on this street,” he said. “Particularly in this suburb as well.”

Police Minister Reece Whitby said the scene was “confronting” for officers and first responders.

“They’ve gone through the trauma of having to deal with this,” he said.

Mr Whitby said his thoughts are “with the families and the loved ones” of the deceased.

Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers or call 1800 333 000 while inquiries are ongoing.
