The beloved relationship expert is stepping away from the Australian series.

Married at First Sight Australia expert Mel Schilling has decided to walk away from the show, revealing the news in an emotional statement on Instagram. The star has become a fan-favourite across both the Australian and UK versions of the hit reality series, but will now be stepping back from the original series.
“After 12 extraordinary seasons, I have made the heartfelt decision to step away from my role as an expert on Married at First Sight Australia,” Mel’s statement began, adding: “This hasn’t been a choice I’ve made lightly…”
“In recent years, my health challenges and living in the UK spending up to three months a year away from my family is no longer sustainable. It has become clear that I must make a change that puts my family, health and time at the very centre of my life.”
“What began as a small social experiment has grown into a global phenomenon, and I have felt truly privileged to be part of that journey,” Mel reflected, before sharing how “incredibly grateful” she was to the “fans, production team and fellow experts” for both their “trust and passion”.
Mel made it clear that she is not leaving “with sadness”, but instead feels “a deep sense of gratitude” for everything achieved on the show. The relationship expert has confirmed that, while she is “stepping away” from the Australian series, she will continue her “work with Married at First Sight UK“.

Understandably, many have flocked to the comments to share their support for Mel. Anna Williamson, broadcaster and dating agent on E4’s Celebs Go Dating, simply posted a heart emoji, while a number of former MAFS contestants shared their own messages.
“Mel there are too many words to write how much you’ve changed my life for the better, as I’m sure everybody on the show will agree,” said past MAFS UK bride Ella Morgan, adding: “Thank you – you will be missed by all”.
Nelly Patel, who starred in the most recent UK season, also shared her thanks for the “support” and “kind words” from Mel during her time on the show, before signing off “thank you for everything Queen!”.
Domenica Calarco, a former contestant on MAFS Australia, shared: “I will never forget your kindness to me during some of my toughest moments in the experiment”, later stating that “the show won’t be the same without you…”
Ashley James, author and media personality, wrote: “Wishing you so much love in your next chapter”, while former MAFS Australia star Lauren Dunn commented: “Thank you so much Mel, I adore you.”
The Australian version of the show airs on Channel Nine, and the broadcaster’s Head of Content, Production and Development, Adrian Swift, said (via Daily Mail): “Mel has been on the Married at First Sight journey from season two.”
“She helped us define the show in the early days and always brought her incredible insight and empathy to both the matching process and to the commitment ceremony couch,” he added, before wishing her “continued success” on MAFS UK.
Married at First Sight Australia and MAFS UK air on Channel 4 in the UK.
