A GRANDMOTHER is speaking out after a vicious attack from a stray dog left a five-day-old baby dead.

The baby’s family had taken in the dog just months before the horrific attack.

Linda French, the infant’s grandmother, said she never had a chance to meet the baby girl before she was mauled.

Officials in Oakland County, Michigan said that the baby died from injuries related to the attack on Tuesday.

The dog was humanely euthanized the following day, and no charges have been brought forward.

Police confirmed to local ABC affiliate WXYZ that an investigation is still ongoing.

French said that her stepson, the baby’s father, told her that the baby had been left alone in a bassinet with the dog when the attack occurred.

“That baby shouldn’t have never been left alone,” French said.

“I’m sorry to say that about my stepson, but those kids don’t belong there and it kills me.”

The grandmother added that the family had only brought the dog into the home in the last few months, and that it had lunged at her previously.

“They don’t know that dog. They don’t know where he came from,” French said.

“He lunged at me.”

The attack occurred in a family home in Novi, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.

French shared that she is speaking out because she wants the other children in the home to be safe.

“I do care about them. I just want them to be safe,” the distraught grandmother said.

“I’m just, God, I’m devastated.”
