Married At First Sight’s most talked-about groom Danny Hewitt has finally opened up after last week’s explosive episode that left fans debating his marriage to Bec Zacharia.
Speaking to Daily Mail, Danny, 34, addressed the dramatic dinner party where tensions peaked, with Bec visibly losing her cool on national television.
The groom described watching the fallout back as a ‘mixed emotions’ experience, admitting he struggled to make sense of his wife’s outburst.
‘Not backing her best life,’ he said, reflecting on just how raw things looked on screen.
The drama didn’t stop at the Dinner Party.
During the experts’ couch session, it emerged that Bec confessed to being scared Danny might walk away, a revelation that stunned viewers and sparked speculation about the strength of their relationship.

Danny confessed that he was relieved she finally voiced her fears.
‘She was obviously holding that in… I’m not a mind reader, you know? So it’s better out than in,’ he said.
He denied there was any actual reason for her to worry about him leaving though, instead pointing to ongoing frustrations around alcohol and communication in their marriage.
‘We were both holding back in that moment… when you’re both holding back, you’re just not gonna get nowhere,’ he said, conceding that the pair had been stuck in a frustrating cycle.
One of the biggest talking points surrounding Danny this season has been his reported feud with fellow bride Gia Fleur after rumours emerged at a Dinner Party that he had claimed she was ‘his type’.
Danny firmly denied these claims, labelling them ‘lies’.
‘I don’t know why she just gets a kick out of going around lying about people, especially me,’ he said, dismissing the ongoing gossip as absurd.
He also acknowledged the feud has taken a toll on his relationship with mate and co-star Scott, who sided with his wife in the row.
Despite the feuding, Danny was quick to stress his loyalty to Bec. When asked if seeing her attacked made him protective, he didn’t hesitate
‘It definitely has a toll on our relationship,’ Danny said. ‘How are we both meant to be good partners and back our wives while we’re getting at each other?’
Danny also addressed viewer backlash over the way his story has been portrayed. He said that, on screen, it looks like theirs is ‘the sh**test relationship in the world’, but insisted it wasn’t how it felt living it.
‘We had ups and we had downs. It just seems to me like the downs are being shown… so it just looks like we’re flogging a dead horse, where that wasn’t how it felt,’ he explained.
He confessed frustration that parts of his personality – particularly his humour – haven’t been shown as much, with airtime instead dominated by the conundrum around the Gia issue.
Despite the feuding, Danny was quick to stress his loyalty to Bec. When asked if seeing her attacked made him protective, he didn’t hesitate.
‘If someone’s on the attack, Bec’s on the attack… I don’t sit down and attack people. But when she’s the one getting attacked, I’m the guy standing on the hill flying and dying for her,’ he said, hinting at upcoming scenes where he stands up for her at the retreat.
He also insisted he holds no bad feelings towards Gia, despite accusing her of dishonesty.
‘She’s a mother… the last thing I want to do is attack her. But I’m gonna defend myself when she lies about me,’ Danny said, adding that he genuinely wishes everyone well.
With the experiment far from over, Danny hinted at more clashes ahead – especially at the retreat where alliances and conflicts are set to boil over.
He teased more drama with other cast members and even some ongoing tension with Scott.
Despite the tumultuous journey so far and criticism from some viewers, Danny sounded optimistic.
He shrugged off concerns about looking bad on TV, saying he knows the truth about himself and his marriage.
‘I can’t worry about what people think… opinions are like assholes – everyone’s got one,’ he laughed.
