Paris Fashion Week has been busy with debuts—from Jonathan Anderson’s first womenswear collection for Dior, to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez at Loewe. The biggest surprise, though? Meghan Markle’s first ever PFW appearance.

The Duchess of Sussex seems to have made the trip from Montecito to the City of Light for the special occasion of Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first runway show as creative director at Balenciaga. Photographed exiting her hotel on her way to this evening’s show, Markle cut an elegant figure in a white cape and a white silky button-down underneath, a full Balenciaga look. She accessorized simply with black pointed pumps, and wore her hair in a sleek, slicked-back bun.

This marks the first time the Duchess has ever appeared at Paris Fashion Week—but while she’s never turned out for the London or Milan legs of fashion month, she does have a history with New York Fashion Week.

Markle’s front row debut was at the Hervé Léger for the brand’s spring 2014 show. (An era where Markle truly loved a jewel-toned wrap dress.) During her time acting on Suits, she was a frequent NYFW attendee at shows including Tory Burch, Peter Som, Wes Gordon, and Misha Nonoo, among others. Since marrying Prince Harry and her dalliance with royal engagements in 2020, she has taken a step back from the fashion circuit in favor of more philanthropic appearances. But it makes sense, seeing her turn out for Piccioli’s Balenciaga debut—having worn several pieces by the designer during his tenure at Valentino.

“Over the years, the duchess has worn a number of designs by Pierpaolo,” a spokesperson for Meghan shared with press. “They have worked closely together collaborating on design for key moments on the world stage. She has long admired his craftsmanship and modern elegance, and tonight was no different. This evening reflects the culmination of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her support for his new creative chapter at Balenciaga.”

Tonight, Meghan joined the likes of Anne Hathaway and Lauren Sánchez Bezos— all there to see Piccioli’s spring 2026 collection.

It’s already been quite the week for her, with the royal expanding her lifestyle brand, As Ever, with a new Sauvignon Blanc. Markle also confirmed the return of her sell-out fan favorites, As Ever’s apricot spread and orange marmalade. “The girls are back in town,” she wrote on Instagram Stories, “and they brought a friend.”

The Meghan Markle school of style feels quite in step with Piccioli’s vision for the storied French house. Post-Kensington Palace, the modern mogul has swapped her HRH twin sets for breezy linens and elegant silks. Witnessing the runway tonight, she would have taken in the drapey monochromatic sets and architectural tailoring, and made some notes.

Will Meghan stay in Paris for Chanel to see Matthieu Blazy’s debut, or make another unexpected appearance at shows still on the fashion week schedule? That remains to be seen…
