A mind-bending “masterpiece” thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio that boasts “one of the biggest twists ever” is streaming now in the UK. Shutter Island (2010) tells the story of US Marshalls Edward “Teddy” Daniels (DiCaprio) and his partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo), who are investigating a disappearance at a criminal psychiatric facility on a fictional island in Boston Harbor.

It was directed by Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese. Laeta Kalogridis wrote the screenplay, adapted from Dennis Lehane’s 2003 novel of the same name. Esquire Australia included Shutter Island in its ranking of the biggest plot twists in movie history, and fans have flocked to review aggregator sites to praise its disturbing and unpredictable story.

One fan on IMDb wrote: “Shutter Island” is simply a masterpiece. The beginning of the movie suggests a very basic plot of a detective story, possibly a thriller. As the movie progresses, the plot becomes bigger and bigger with more and more complexity added to it. The way this happens is incredible.”

Another called said it was their first ever Scorsese film, and they now “know why he has so many fans ’cause now I am one too”.

A third said : “Everything about this movie is so great. One of the best movies I have ever watched. Worth every minute if your time – you won’t regret it.”
