Fresh off his historic American Idol win, Jamal Roberts is letting his fans know—he’s just getting started.
In a quiet Instagram post that’s now causing major waves, the Mississippi-born singer dropped a raw, emotional snippet of what appears to be new song lyrics:
“Traded in the lazy days I used to lay by the river. Oh, how I miss it. Out here, smiling like this is the life, but deep inside, I’m just pretending. No, that ain’t living. I’m missing you in Mississippi, and it don’t feel the same without you with me.”
Those words hit hard—and fans felt it immediately. Within minutes, comments poured in:
“We know you’re in the lab!!!! Let’s goooooooooo 🙌🙌🙌”
“These sound like song lyrics. I’m sure it’s all overwhelming.”
“Homesickness is real. Take care of yourself, king.”
One fan summed up the moment perfectly:
“Your voice has placed you in a position of power. But remember—you’re in control. Any day you want to go lay by the river in Mississippi, go do it. We’ll still be here when you get back.”
A Dedication to Mississippi—and What Comes Next
Shortly after the post, Jamal confirmed what many suspected:
“There’s a new song coming out Sunday,” he said. “I think I want to dedicate it to Mississippi.”
No title yet. No studio teaser. Just a heartfelt lyric and the promise of more to come. And for Jamal’s fans, that’s more than enough.
Big News: He’s Joining “The Boy Is Mine” Tour with Brandy, Monica, and More
As if the new music weren’t exciting enough, Roberts also made a major career announcement: he’s joining R&B legends Brandy and Monica on their upcoming 24-city arena tour, The Boy Is Mine. Other special guests include Kelly Rowland and Muni Long.
The tour kicks off October 16 in Cincinnati and will make stops in Brooklyn, Atlanta, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and more.
“The things God is doing in my life 🥺,” Roberts wrote. “Hmmmmm and new music is on the way 🔥🔥🔥 Sit tight 🤞🏾 oh and I love y’all ❤️💪🏾”
The reaction? Pure joy.
“You are the star. Can’t wait to see you in concert!”
“Aunties, let’s GOOOOO!”
“This is your journey now. We got you—not just Mississippi. Wherever you are, Auntie gotcha ❤️❤️❤️”
Staying True: Music, Family, and Faith
Despite his skyrocketing fame, Roberts remains grounded. In a recent livestream, he gently addressed rumors that fellow Idol alum Carrie Underwood hadn’t supported him during the season.
“Carrie is a country singer. She had her picks and stuck with who she liked. We respect that. And I feel like the better person won.”
It’s this quiet confidence and humility that continues to win hearts. Whether he’s talking about music, mental health, or his three daughters—Harmoni, Lyrik, and Gianna—Roberts leads with love.
“I read the lyrics. I write them. And I put myself inside of them,” he said of his viral debut single “Heal” (a reimagining of the Tom Odell ballad). It’s a process that Idol judge Lionel Richie famously called “Jamalarizing.”
A Historic Idol Win—and a Future That’s Only Just Begun
As the first Black man to win American Idol since Ruben Studdard in 2003, Jamal Roberts didn’t just make history—he made it personal.
He’s singing for more than just fans. He’s singing for family. For Mississippi. For anyone who’s ever felt out of place chasing a dream far from home.
And if these lyrics are any hint of what’s to come?
Jamal isn’t just making music.
He’s making meaning.
