Meghan Markle’s dad has said he wants to reunite with his estranged daughter “before it’s too late”. It is understood that Meghan, 44, called hospitals in the Philippines after learning that Thomas Markle, 81, was hospitalised and had his leg amputated after suffering a blood clot. Ulrika Jonsson has since weighed in on the family drama as the presenter explained she was estranged from her dad for some years before his death.
The 58 year old recalled being photographed with Prince Edward in 1989 which sparked a meltdown at the time. The former Gladiators host recalled her own dad allowing reporters into his flat where he believed he had been doing Ulrika a favour but it was quite the opposite.
Writing in her latest column for The Sun, she shared, “Despite absolutely worshipping and loving my dad deeply, he had been a painfully inconsistent, thoughtless, unreliable father who’d brought a lot of disappointment to my door.”

She was able to “make peace” with her dad before his death at 53.
Turning her attention to Meghan the columnist admitted her “empathy has dried up” for the Duchess of Sussex but admitted she shouldn’t be forced to visit her ailing father.

Ulrika commented: “The constant narrative about how sacred family relationships are only suits those who are in good ones.
So, if Meghan chooses to see her father a final time, it should be a decision she makes for herself and not one she makes out of some misplaced sense of duty or obligation.”

A spokesperson for Meghan said: “I can confirm she [Meghan] has reached out to her father.”
No further details have been released.
Meghan has been estranged from her father since her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 after he was caught staging paparazzi photos in the run up to the big day.
He later suffered two heart attacks and said his daughter was “furious” with him at the time.
It has since been reported that Meghan has since written a letter to her dad and the Duchess of Sussex is hopeful the message will arrive to Thomas in the next 24 hours.
