Puerto Rican rapper and Saturday Night Live host Bad Bunny mocked right-wing backlash to his upcoming Spanish-only Super Bowl halftime show, and started the countdown clock for anyone who doesn’t know the language.
Bad Bunny, who closed out SNL season 50 in May as musical guest, was recently named the halftime performer at Super Bowl LX in February. His show will be solely in Spanish—a decision which angered many on the right and spurred Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to warn that ICE agents will be at the Santa Clara, California venue.
“I have the responsibility for making sure everybody goes to the Super Bowl, has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave, and that’s what America’s about,” Noem said on The Benny Show. “So yeah, we’ll be all over that place. We’re going to enforce the law.”
“So, I think people should not be coming to the Super Bowl unless they’re law-abiding Americans who love this country,” Noem added, seemingly implying that tourists weren’t welcome.
Bad Bunny, who has revealed that his world tour didn’t include stops in the mainland U.S due to the Trump administration’s mass deportations, joked that “everyone is happy” about his future gig—”even Fox News.” He then rolled a rapid succession of clips of hosts on the right-wing network combining to say: “Bad Bunny. Is. My favorite. Musician. And he should be the next. President.”
“I’m very excited to be doing the Super Bowl, and I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy,” the Grammy winner said before continuing in Spanish.
“…Especially all the Latinos and Latinas in the whole world, and here in the United States, all the people who have worked to open doors, more than I have achieved, who have achieved everything, demonstrating that our way, our carrying of this country, no one can ever remove nor erase.”
He wrapped up his monologue in English: “And if you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”
