rince Harry and Meghan Markle walked away from their roles within the royal family as working members five years ago.

Since then, the tension between the Sussexes and The Firm has been widely reported on.

Now, an inside look into Meghan’s life in the palace has seemingly explained how the duchess wasn’t prepared for the burden of being in touching distance of the crown.

Meghan Markle ‘wasn’t prepared’ for life within the royal family

Former royal butler Grant Harrold has chimed in with fresh insight into Meghan’s time as a working royal.

This included his confirmation that she was not clued in on royal etiquette – like she has previously claimed.

In a chat with The Express US about Meghan’s time at the palace, Harrold explained: “Meghan saying that she didn’t understand royal etiquette makes sense because she is from America so she wasn’t expected to know how to do things.”

Harrold’s words undoubtedly highlight that Meghan was not prepared for the stresses and strains that royal life was bound to bring, a contrast to what Princess Kate may have experienced.

Harrold said: “She may have watched the royal family. But she wouldn’t know the etiquette and rules. The Princess of Wales obviously spent years dating Prince William and got to learn along the way. Meghan and Harry were quicker. And there wasn’t the same amount of time.”

Harrold also detailed the signs that showed Meghan wasn’t prepared for her extremely exposed role.

He added: “I did notice that when Meghan was attending events with Harry, you could see Harry giving her pointers and advice. So she was learning on the job.”

The former butler’s words seem to affirm Meghan’s own sentiment. She previously shared similar claims in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

She told the TV host of her experience joining the royal family: “Unlike what you see in the movies, there’s no class on how to… how to speak, how to cross your legs, how to be royal.”

The duchess went on to disclose: “There’s none of that training. That might exist for other members of the family. That was not something that was offered to me.”

Grant Harrold has shared a number of comments about Meghan’s life as a royal.

He has even claimed that the duchess had a very obscured view of what being enveloped into the royal fold would entail.

“I think the problem with Meghan is that she went into the organisation and she assumed that after watching all the Disney princesses that she thought it was going to be like that,” he told Page Six.
