A family home went up in flames after a second-hand e-bike exploded, forcing nine people to flee.

A family with seven children made a miraculous escape after an exploding e-bike sent their house up in flames.

At shortly after midnight on Wednesday, a home in Hebersham, west of Sydney, was engulfed in flames in dramatic scenes.

Shocking footage shows a huge blaze tear through the home, as the family of nine dash to safety with mere seconds to spare.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang at the start of the fire, followed by several explosions, with the building soon overcome by the flames.

But miraculously, all nine of the family members were able to make it out unscathed.

“I think we were all pretty lucky that nobody was hurt … lucky to get all the kids out,” a family member told 9News.

The devastating scene has left the house a charred shell, with the property gutted by the blaze.

Authorities say the blaze was not suspicious and was instead caused by a second-hand e-bike, which exploded while it was being charged.

“There were flames coming out of the roof, the window and sides of the house,” Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Superintendent Peter Murray told 9News.

“It was a very intense fire.”
