A WA man stabbed his partner in a Tasmanian home, before getting into his vehicle and driving onto a busy highway, where he was involved in a fiery head-on collision with another car.
The 42-year-old stabbed a woman in her 40s – his partner of six months – multiple times in a home in Exeter, before he collided with another vehicle, killing 39-year-old nurse Elaine Gee.
Ms Gee was unrelated to the stabbing incident and was driving home from work at the local hospital when the collision occurred.
The WA man died at the scene on the West Tamar Highway at Legana, while Ms Gee was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition.
Tasmania Police released a statement on Sunday evening confirming Ms Gee had died in hospital.
Police also confirmed that the stabbing victim had been taken to Launceston General Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Both the man and the woman are believed to have been visiting Tasmania from Perth.
More than $120,000 has been raised in an online fundraiser to support Ms Gee’s family after she was killed in the crash.
Ms Gee has been described as a loving wife, the mother of two boys, aged 6 and 10, and had worked at the hospital for 20 years.

According to the fundraiser, Ms Gee was driving home from work when a man “deliberately drove straight into” her vehicle.
“What was supposed to be Elaine’s 40th birthday will now be her funeral, to say Elaine’s family and friends are devastated beyond words is an understatement,” the fundraiser read.
In a social media post, her husband, Rodney Gee, mourned his “best friend” and “beautiful wife”.
“So please, it is going to take all of us … to help me make the good boys we have raised together become the great men she knew they could be.
“I can be their dad, but no-one can ever replace their mum.”
