Prince William and Princess Kate have stepped out in style at a royal banquet, fuelling fresh speculation about the future of the monarchy.
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended a state banquet at St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle on March 18, held in honour of Nigeria’s President, where they appeared confident and composed in their royal duties.
Dressed for the formal occasion, the pair presented a united front, with royal watchers noting their growing presence at key events.
Kate wore a a high-neck emerald green gown with her hair curled and worn down, with Prince William opting for a white tie ensemble and his Windsor tail coat.
The appearance, however, was less about their outfits and more about the royal chatter that it has reignited about King Charles’ health and what it could mean for the monarchy’s future.
Reports from royal insiders have suggested to New Idea that the King, 77, has been finding the demands of public duties increasingly challenging amid ongoing cancer treatment.
“While William and Kate radiated confidence, youth, and charm, Charles really struggled that night,” one insider told New Idea.
“He looked small, frail and at one point, he almost slumped into his chair as he seemed so exhausted,” New Idea reported.
Sources claim there has been discussions behind palace doors about how to manage the King’s workload, with Prince William and Princess Kate said to be taking on more duties and responsibilities.
Prince William has represented the monarch at a number of official engagements, including ceremonies and high-level meetings.

There are also claims the Prince and the Princess of Wales could soon be granted the authority to issue Royal Warrants — a move traditionally reserved for the monarch — signalling a shift in responsibilities.
While there has been speculation about a potential timeline, there has been no official confirmation from Buckingham Palace.
The Royal Family has continued to emphasise stability, with King Charles maintaining a public presence despite scaling back on some duties.
Still, William and Kate’s prominent role at major events has many royal insiders looking intimately at the next chapter of the monarchy gradually takes shape.
