Cancer patient robbed at knifepoint in Springfield Lakes

A grandmother undergoing cancer treatment has allegedly been targeted in a terrifying armed home invasion, with a teenage boy now charged.

Linda Bray, 62, was staying at her daughter’s home in Springfield Lakes, Ipswich, while undergoing chemotherapy when two armed offenders allegedly broke in about 3.30am on Saturday.

Police allege the pair entered the Jupiter St home armed with knives before threatening her and demanding property.

Bray said one of the offenders used a phone to communicate.

“He wrote on his phone, ‘this is a robbery’, showed me,” she told 7NEWS.

The men allegedly threatened her with a knife and a meat cleaver, demanding money and claiming there were four of them and her family was being held hostage.

“That to me rips my heart out, they’re my grandbabies,” Bray said.

The offenders stole a number of items, including children’s shoes, a vape, a wallet and car keys before attempting to steal a vehicle.

They were unable to drive the car after realising it was manual.

“They moved it back about a metre and then obviously worked out it was a manual and there was no ‘just put it into drive’ moment,” she said.

“That was the funniest part.”

Despite the ordeal, Bray was not physically injured.

However, there are concerns the trauma could impact her ongoing cancer treatment.

“These people could have just stopped you getting life-saving treatment,” her daughter Sabra Brookes said.
