A family has been served a “life sentence” after a father-of-two was killed when an alleged drunk driver slammed into him while he was jump starting his car on an Adelaide motorway.
Sandy Sandhu, 33, also known as Sarabdial Singh, was struck in the emergency lane at Dry Creek on the North–South Motorway, about 12km from the Adelaide CBD, just after midnight on Sunday.

He suffered catastrophic injuries — including a severed leg, multiple broken ribs and severe internal trauma — and died in hospital.
“I lost my husband. My kids lost their father,” his wife, Parabhjit Kaur, told 7NEWS.
“He was the best part of my life.”

Sandhu’s brother Sikandar Singh witnessed the crash and is still traumatised.
“We were in the emergency lane,” he said.
“The line is still nearly two feet away from our car.”
Singh said he was with his brother as he lay heavily bleeding on the road, and he knew he wasn’t going to survive.
“He said please take care of my children and my family,” Singh said.
“I said don’t worry.”
Police allege the driver who hit him, 22‑year‑old Harrison Beckel from Mallala, was drunk and fled the scene.
Witnesses told investigators they saw Beckel’s ute “swerving” across multiple lanes before the impact.
Beckel faced court on Monday where the devastation he allegedly left behind was detailed.
“Following the collision, a witness pulled over, exited the vehicle and saw a leg in the roadway,” prosecutors told the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
“He then heard the victim crying out behind him.”

Beckel has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a crash.
He is yet to enter pleas.
Sandhu’s family is furious he was granted bail after spending just one night in custody — allowed to return to work and continue driving trucks on his family’s Mallala farm while awaiting court.
“We are still trying to figure out how the hell he got bail and we got a life sentence,” brother Harman Singh said.
“One day I will get justice,” Sandhu’s wife said.
Beckel will return to court in June.
A GoFundMe has been started to help Sandhu’s family, already raising more than $43,000.
