Police are investigating Freeman’s movements in the months before his hideout was discovered.
Dezi Freeman associates arrested then released without charge

Detectives from Taskforce Summit have released two people after they were arrested as part of the investigation into the movements of cop‑killer Desmond “Dezi” Freeman following the fatal shooting of two police officers in Porepunkah last August.
A man and a woman — both confirmed to be associates of Freeman and not family members — were arrested about 7am on Friday at two separate properties in northeast Victoria.\
The pair were interviewed by police on Saturday.

“The pair have now been released pending further enquiries,” police said in an update on Saturday.
“The investigation remains ongoing and as such, we are not in a position to provide further details at this immediate time.”
Freeman, 56, was shot dead by police on March 29 after a three‑hour standoff at a rural property in Thologolong, in Victoria’s northeast.
Police had been searching for him for more than seven months after he shot dead Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart‑Hottart and seriously injured a third police officer during a search warrant at his Porepunkah property in August 2025.
Freeman, a self‑described sovereign citizen, had been hiding in a shipping container‑style structure when heavily armed officers surrounded the site. Police say he emerged wrapped in a blanket and presented a firearm, prompting officers to open fire.
He was shot shortly after 8.30am, with Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush saying the shooting was “justified” and that Freeman had been given every opportunity to surrender peacefully.
