Perth doctors are keeping an Irish man with a devastating brain injury alive, giving his mother the chance to reach Australia to be with her son in his final moments.

Aaron Mulligan, originally from Sligo in Ireland, moved to Perth in 2024 to embark on an exciting new chapter.

Heartbreakingly, after recently being involved in a serious road traffic incident which left him in a critical condition, he now has been left with a severe brain injury and is fighting for life at Royal Perth Hospital.

Friends of Aaron’s mum have set up a GoFundMe page, to help ease the costs of the journey his family is desperately trying to make, to be by Aaron’s side in his final moments.

“Like so many young people from Ireland, (Aaron) moved to Australia a few years ago to begin a new chapter in his life. Tragically, Aaron was recently involved in a very serious road traffic accident and has suffered a severe brain injury that is not compatible with life,” the post said.

“Doctors are doing everything they can to keep him alive until his mum can reach him.”

The post on the fundraiser page explains that the financial burden of emergency travel from Ireland to Australia and navigating the flight path restrictions due to the conflict in the Middle East has left Aaron’s family facing “enormous and unexpected costs.”

The GoFundMe page, that was created on Sunday had already raised 88 per cent of the $114,000 target by Monday afternoon.

“Every contribution will help support Mairead and her family through this incredibly difficult time,” the post said.
