Victoria Police have issued an urgent appeal for public assistance to locate six-year-old boy Charlie, who has been missing from Mernda since December 24, raising serious concerns for his welfare due to his young age.

Charlie was last seen in the Mernda area on December 24 in the company of a family member. When he could not be located, authorities were notified, prompting an immediate search by local police and family members.

He is described as approximately 140cm tall, with short brown hair. At the time of his disappearance, Charlie was wearing a black hooded jumper over charcoal pants, black sneakers, and blue headphones.

Police and Charlie’s family hold grave concerns for his safety, emphasising that it is out of character for him to be away for this length of time. “Due to his age, we are very worried about his wellbeing,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said. “We need the community’s help to bring him home safely.”

An image of Charlie has been released in the hope that someone recognises him or has information about his whereabouts. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducting door-knocks in Mernda and surrounding suburbs.

Mernda, a growing northern suburb of Melbourne, has seen community members share the appeal widely on social media, with local groups organising to assist in searches. Authorities believe Charlie may still be in the local area or could have travelled further.

Anyone who sights Charlie is urged to contact Mernda Police Station on (03) 9216 1200 immediately or triple zero (000) in an emergency. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

As the search enters its second week, the plea for Charlie’s safe return grows more urgent. Police continue to work around the clock, hopeful that public vigilance will lead to a positive outcome for the young boy and his distressed family.
