Whoopi Goldberg grew heated when The View’s most recent Hot Topics turned to Meghan Markle on Wednesday morning.

As her co-hosts began to weigh in on the Duchess of Sussex’s decision to sign a private gift “HRH,” Goldberg made it known she was already over it.

The gift, a jar of homemade strawberry jam, was reportedly signed “HRH, the Duchess of Sussex,” despite Meghan and Prince Harry stepping away from their senior royal roles in 2020.

“Damn them!” Goldberg said sarcastically as the segment began, playing up mock outrage over the royal family’s supposed reaction.

After asking the panel if it was “a bad look for Meghan to still refer to herself as a royal,” Goldberg quickly lost patience with the answers.

Sunny Hostin said: “No, no, it’s not,” before Goldberg interrupted with “wake me up when you’re done!”

Hostin continued: “The agreement that was made did not remove the title, it restricted the way it was to be used — it was not to be used publicly.”

“She was giving a friend some strawberry jam that she made herself, and she wrote, ‘HRH, the Duchess of Sussex,’ so it was a private gift.”

Conservative panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin said she found it “a little bit cringe to give a gift to a close friend and sign it, ‘Her Royal Highness,’” but added that the royal family’s reported anger seemed “petty” in comparison.

“Can I ask a really dumb question that I just woke up for?” Goldberg said.

“It’s the subject matter,” Goldberg explained.

Goldberg later added that the “cringier” part was that the friend chose to publicize the private gift.

She implied that any issue with the title should have stayed between friends, not become Hot Topic fodder.
