Amid growing concerns over Joy Behar’s ongoing absence from The View, Whoopi Goldberg is setting the record straight about why her co-host is playing hooky: she hurt her foot. The Sister Act actress explained as much during the Wednesday, November 12 taping of the show.

“Well, hello, hello, hello, and welcome to The View, y’all,” Goldberg said to her audience, per Entertainment Weekly. “Now, Joy is out because she hurt her foot, and hopefully she’ll be back here tomorrow.”

Behar has been absent from the show since Monday, November 10. She has been a mainstay on The View since it premiered back in 1997.

“When I got this job—when was it? 1997?—I was sort of on the cusp of getting a sitcom,” she recalled on The View‘s “Behind the Table” podcast. “The call comes for this job to do The View with Barbara Walters.”

Behar added that her agent told her “not to take it” at the time, given the pay, although she “knew that it would be a smart show.”

Goldberg, for her part, has been a host on The View since 2007. Earlier this year, she made headlines when she revealed on air that she hasn’t worn a bra in five decades. It all started when Behar quipped, “She liberated those girls a long time ago,” to which Goldberg replied, “I don’t wear one. I have not worn a bra in 50 years.”

The Color Purple actress continued, “It’s too uncomfortable, and I don’t mind if they hit the floor! They’re mine.”
