A “masterpiece” film featuring an all-star cast is streaming again on Netflix in the UK. Zombieland (2009) is a comedy/action/horror film about a group of strangers who meet in the midst of a zombie outbreak and set off on a dangerous drive across the country in search of safe santuaries.

The movie, which blends action and farce, is stacked with stars, including Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. It was directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. A sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, was released in 2019. Fans have flocked to Rotten Tomatoes to shower the chaotic caper with praise, with one writing: “Amazing movie. Way ahead of its time. The perfect mix of comedy, action, romance and zombies”, adding that it has “awesome” writing and is perfectly cast. “Can’t say enough good things about this movie.”

Another wrote: “Zombieland is unique genius that will be hard to ever replicate. Enjoyable over and over again.”

A third called it an “all-time classic”, saying the acting is “really good with Woody being the best darn thing in this with Bill Murray”.

“Both of them just rock. The other 3 are really good but man and have some good chemistry with witty dialouge and some clever tounge in cheek humor.

“But man Woody just steals the show whenever the camera is on him.”

Another, who gave it five stars wrote: “An absolute masterpiece. Even after eleven years this film is incredibly good.”

A fifth said: “An adventurous and fun-filled comedy, combined with Fleischer’s direction, Reese and Wernick’s script, the performances of the cast, Sardy’s score, Bonvillain’s cinematography, Baumgarten and Amundon’s editing, Ahmad’s production design, Serdena’s set decoration, Guidasci’s costume design, action sequences and visual effects, Zombieland is pure fun!!!”

The film has a superb 89% score on the site’s Tomatometer (reflecting the percentage of approved critics who have given it a positive score), and an 86% score among general audiences.

It has a 15 certificate and contains strong bloody comic violence and strong language, so viewer discretion is advised.

Zombieland returned to Netflix in the UK on Sunday, March 13.
