Meghan Markle will appear alongside writer Courtney Adamo for a special gathering at a California bookshop tonight.

The venue has announced that whilst tickets have completely sold out, those unable to secure a place can watch the proceedings via a Substack broadcast.

The bookshop shared the update through their Instagram stories, stating: “Today’s event is sold out-but you can join us live on Substack!”

Ms Adamo expressed her enthusiasm on social media, writing: “Very excited about this event tonight at @godmothersbooks. Looking forward to seeing some of you there!”

The literary venue, which serves as both a bookshop and community gathering place, is located in Summerland, California.

The shop first welcomed customers in September 2024, backed by prominent supporters including Oprah Winfrey and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The establishment’s distinctive name originated from a light-hearted moment when Prince Harry referred to the shop’s co-founders, Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson, along with their associate Oprah Winfrey, as his “fairy godmothers” during a gathering for his autobiography, Spare.

Ms Winfrey then suggested the name, which the founders adopted.

The accompanying text explained: “Named by none other than Oprah herself, Godmothers officially opened its doors this weekend in Summerland, CA surrounded by our brilliant community.”

The launch weekend featured a three-day celebration from September 6 to 8, bringing together influential figures from various fields.

Notable attendees included Ms Winfrey, the Duchess of Sussex, author Shaka Senghor, entrepreneur Whitney Wolfe Herd, and musician MILCK.

The festivities centred around celebrating narrative and its impact, as the shop described the gathering: “For three unforgettable days (Sept 6-8), we celebrated the power of storytelling with dear friends Oprah Winfrey, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Shaka Senghor, Whitney Wolfe Herd, MILCK, and more!”

The weekend marked the official beginning of the bookshop’s role as a cultural hub in the Summerland community, establishing itself as a space dedicated to literature and meaningful conversations.

The Duchess has maintained a notably active public schedule in recent weeks.

On October 14, she addressed attendees at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2025, held at the Salamander Hotel in Washington, DC.

Earlier that month, she and Prince Harry made several appearances in New York City.

The couple participated in the Project Healthy Minds World Mental Health Day Festival at Spring Studios on October 10, having attended the organisation’s third annual gala the previous evening.

Her international engagements have also included a trip to France, where she attended the Womenswear Spring Summer 2026 shows during Paris Fashion Week on October 5.

Tonight’s bookshop appearance continues this pattern of high-profile public engagements for the Duchess.
