The Cleaning Lady has quickly become a huge hit for Netflix subscribers after being released in full this week.

Netflix fans are already binge-watching a gripping crime drama that has been “completely captivating” audiences.

The Cleaning Lady may have concluded its fourth and final season on Fox in the US, but it has now garnered a whole new legion of fans via Netflix, following its release last month.

The series follows the story of Thony De La Rosa (played by Elodie Yung), a Cambodian-Filipino surgeon who finds herself coerced into the Las Vegas criminal underworld as a cleaner/doctor in a desperate attempt to save her son’s life.

There are numerous turbulent plot twists throughout the series, but in season four, Thony finds herself behind bars after Jorge (Santiago Cabrera) shockingly frames her for the murder of Rex Blackley (Derek Smith).

Here’s a breakdown of everything that unfolds in the final episodes of The Cleaning Lady.

The Cleaning Lady ending explained

Jorge’s plan

After manoeuvring his way into the interrogation room to confront Thony, Jorge reveals that a mole working for Sam Heller (John Pyper-Ferguson) in the District Attorney’s office planted murder evidence against him.

He maintains that he must remain out of prison in order to identify who is responsible, and attempts to reassure Thony that she would not be convicted of Rex’s murder.

Nevertheless, she would still need to spend some time incarcerated in the interim, which is no straightforward matter given that Ramona (Kate Del Castillo) holds absolute authority in prison.

To safeguard herself, Thony intends to kill Romana in the shower using a knife, however Romana knocks her out before Thony can follow through with the attack.

The mole

When Jorge corners District Attorney Thornfield in the bathroom, he quickly establishes that he was the one who aided Sam Heller.

He alerts El Don (Danny Pardo) that Thornfield must be dealt with, and so Jorge drugs and drowns him in the hot tub, staging his death to appear as a suicide.

Following his death, Joel is appointed the new District Attorney and promptly files a notice to secure Thony’s release from prison.

Prison break

Thony is still recuperating in the prison hospital when a riot erupts and a tractor smashes a gaping hole in the prison wall, with Ramona spotted amongst those fleeing.

Recognising her opportunity, Thony convinces the nurse she is suffering a panic attack before overpowering her and making her escape alongside the other inmates.

Ramona

El Don and Jorge discover that Ramona is plotting to take Thony’s son Luca away, departing on a private jet bound for Mexico.

Thony manages to speak with Ramona, who reveals her whereabouts as she requires Luca’s medication for his rare condition before their departure.

Although suspecting a trap, Thony feels she has no option but to go if she is to be reunited with her son.

Upon meeting, Ramona discloses her intention to raise him as her own, following Thony’s destruction of her family.

However, just as Ramona is about to shoot Thony, Fiona (Martha Millan) knocks her unconscious with a shovel, having managed to pinpoint her whereabouts with Benny’s assistance.

Thony is given the opportunity to spare Ramona’s life but chooses to let her perish — yet rather than slitting her throat, she opts to bury her alive in the very grave that had been dug for her.

Next steps

Thony is thankfully reunited with Luca, though Jorge still has his own troubles to contend with.

He lost control of the cartel after Heller purchased the allegiance of his associates, who now answer to Feng (Alain Uy).

Jorge announces he needs time away to devise a plan to reclaim Sin Cara, and asks Thony to join him so they can build a life as a family — but despite now being a fugitive herself, she declines.

Convinced she can strike a deal with Feng, Jorge ensures her safety by handing her a notebook he pilfered from Thornfield, packed with the bribes and contacts he had used alongside Heller.

He instructs Thony to hand it over to Joel, so she can use it as leverage to bring Heller down.

Jorge and Thony share a passionate kiss before he departs on the jet with his daughter Violeta, vowing that they will one day be reunited and build a future together.

She heads to Joel’s office, declaring her willingness to work undercover for Sin Cara and gather evidence for the DA — in exchange for all charges against her being dropped.

Joel concurs, and Thony subsequently pays Feng a visit, expressing her desire to become a fully-fledged cartel associate. She hands over Thornfield’s stolen notebook in a bid to earn his trust.

Feng accepts her into Sin Cara, and Thony later confides in Fiona that her ultimate ambition is to seize control of the cartel for herself.
