A friend of Meghan Markle’s former publicist has spoken out after news broke of her resignation after just three months in the role. Emily Robinson only joined as the director of communications back in June, with her having previously worked for Netflix.

Emily was thought of as a controversial hire as she had previously worked on Netflix’s The Crown, a show which pushed damaging narratives about the Royal Family. She was the tenth person hired as Meghan’s publicist in the space of five years.

Breaking their silence since news of Emily’s departure, one of her friends revealed that she was the one to call time on her role after three months.

They said: “It was her decision. She left a few weeks ago. She’s not a quitter, so things must have been pretty horrible for her to go.”

Ms Robinson’s LinkedIn page currently doesn’t have any reference that she worked with Meghan, but does detail other previous roles that she has held.

Two of Meghan’s former publicists, James Holt and Miranda Barbot, didn’t leave the company and have been promted into non-PR roles.

Those remaining on the Sussex team include Liam Maguire, the director of communications in Europe, and Meredith Maines, the couple’s chief communications officer.

Meredith met with the King’s press secretary, Tobyn Andreae, earlier this summer. This encounter is thought to have help bring together the meeting between the King and Harry.

A representative of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the Express: “Ms. Robinson oversaw project-based work for a very successful season of With Love, Meghan and additional support for the production company. She did an excellent job and completed these projects with great success.”

This news comes hours after Meghan released a tease video for an upcoming launch by her brand As Ever.
